Haatim Zakiyuddin saheb is the 45th Saiyedna of Alavi Bohras and Naa'ib-representative, vicar, legatee and deputy of the progeny of 21st Fatimid Isma'ili Imaam Abul Qaasim at-Taiyeb during the time of his Concealment from Cairo in 528 AH/1132 AD which is called Daur us Satr. He is on the noble rank of Da'i al-Mutlaq or ad-Da'i ul-Mutlaq or Da'i-e-Mutlaq enjoying the absolute spiritual and temporal authority under the secreted guidance of the Imaam of Time. Anyone who gives him Oath of Allegiance and Covenant on the name of Imaam at-Taiyeb then only he is regarded the member of Alavi Bohra Community. Saiyedna's words, commands and guidance is regarded that of Imaam and likewise of Muhammad and Allaah. Believers hold him in high esteem as his life is based on the holy life of Imaam (progeny of Wasi), Wasi (legatee of Nabi) and Nabi (prophet with divine decree and powers).
Saiyedi Nuhji bin Mohammadji was a very close associate and assembly member of Da'wat e Haadiyah during the time of 31st Da'i al-Mutlaq Saiyedna Hasan Badruddin (d. 1090 AH/1679 AD) in Ahmedabad. He was a pious and learned man and pure-heartedly served the mission. Looking to his sincere service and nobility Saiyedna Hasan Badruddin said to him that, " Allaah will bless you with the bounty of noble children who will become the stars of my Da'wat." This wise words of Saiyedna came with the glad-tidings as he was blessed with the son named "Jivabhai".
Saiyedna Hasan Badruddin himself gave the primary religious and other necessary education and learning to Jivabhai and due to his cleverness and wisdom at a very tender age he memorized the Qur'an. Saiyedna saheb gave him special sessions and imparted him deep understanding of Islamic Principles and Isma'ili Tenets. To reward Saiyedi Nuhji for his service and to establish the right rank of Jivabhai among other Ashaab (associates) due to his sincerity and knowledge, Saiyedna saheb bestowed Jivabhai with the honorific title of "Ziyauddin" - the light of religion and ascended him on the high rank of Da'i ul-Mutlaq.
Saiyedna Jivabhai Ziyauddin became the 32nd Da'i al-Mutlaq and he migrated from Ahmedabad to Vadodara in 1110 AH/1699 AH and established his Da'wat in the area called Miya Mahmood Wadi on the outskirts of the Walled city of Vadodara. Saiyedna Hasan Badruddin's grace was so much on Saiyedna Jivabhai Ziyauddin that not only he but in his progeny 12 saheb reached on the holy throne of Da'i al-Mutlaq during the period (1090-1438 AH/1679-2017 AD). The present Da'i Abu Sa'eed il-Khayr Haatim Zakiyuddin Saheb (tus) or Saiyedna saheb is the 12th Saheb of Aal-e-Jivabhai. |

The Mubaarak Name of Maulaa Ziyauddin radiates the Holy Light from within itself. Maulaa became Mansoos of 31st Da'i e Mutlaq Saiyedna Hasan Badruddin saheb AQ and the Holy Light of Haqq Ta'aala got assimilated in him. With this "Ziyaa" and "Noor", Maulaa got the distinction of fulfilling the wasiyat of his "Naass" Saiyedna Hasan Badruddin saheb AQ by migrating from Ahmedabad to Vadodara. It is only due to Maulaa's efforts and magnanimous personality that we got our distinct identity in form of Masjid, Mohalla and Qabarastaan.
Attending the Shab e Urs of Muqaddas Maulaa, Saiyedna Dr Haatim Zakiyuddin saheb TUS addressed huge number of zaa'ereen elaborating some of the very important historic accounts:
- Before Maulaa migrated he visited Vadodara many times and met Babi Nawabs at Panigate area. Nawabs then gave reference to Miya Mehmood, the owner of Wadi area to request him for assigning some land to settle Mumineen those who will be migrating from Ahmedabad in coming years. This all happened between 1100 to 1110 AH/1689-1699 AD.
- Wadi area at that time had huge fruit orchards and vast green spaces of fields and grasslands near Mohammad lake (Mehmood talaav) behind Rang Mahal. Miya Mehmood was a devout mu'min and had a deep faith in Maulaana Imaam Husain AS. During one of Maulaa's visit to Vadodara during the days of Moharram when he went to meet him, Miya Mehmood invited Maulaa to come and recite Majlis e Husain AS. Maulaa went there and with the Haqqaaniyat, Jalaal and Azmat, the way Maulaa delivered the pur-dard and pur-sauz bayaani in Arabic-Persian of the Waaqe'ah e Karbalata, Miya Mehmood and the entire masjid did aah-o-zaari and wept unabatedly and he stood and kissed Maulaa's forehead.
- First Miya Mehmood gifted his Wadi land for the construction of masjid. When their companionship grew stronger and he recognised Maulaa's Ruhaani darajah as a Da'i uz Zamaan, he gifted more land that was in "L" shaped starting from Rang Mahal masjid to Ziyaai Masjid naming it "Badri Mohalla" and from Ziyaai Masjid to the end of Maru Falia naming it "Husaini Mohalla".
- We have lost Husaini Mohalla as Jamaa'at Mumineen got migrated to some safer places as the area was defaced with frequent communal flare-ups. What remains now is the Rawzah Sharifah of our 7 Du'aat e Kiraam AQ and some residences which marks the end of Husaini Mohalla.
- With the financial help from Miya Mehmood, the ta'meer e masjid started in 1100 AH but soon the funds dried up and its construction halted for months together. Maulaa being the Da'i of Imaam uz Zamaan AS, took wasilah and did Du'aa for the speedy completion of Masjid during Tahajjud namaaz. Musanji masjid was too small to accomodate both gents and ladies. Maulaa got khwaab and was guided by Hazrat e Imaamiyah that, "O Mulla Jiva! O my Da'i! Don't worry. Allaah Ta'aala's rahmat is with you. Your wish for a new masjid will get accomplished soon. When you face financial difficulty, go at the place where there is a heap of sand used for the masjid. There you will find what you want."
- As guided Maulaa went there before Fajr prayer and sifted sand. To his utter surprise he came accross several silver coins lying under the sand. Maulaa took it in his Daaman, did Sajadat ush Shukr and went to offer namaaz. After Tilaawat of Surah Yaa-Seen and wasilah of Imaam uz Zamaan AS, he called upon Mashaa'ikh and narrated them the Mo'jezah and Ta'eed of Imaam uz Zamaan AS. Maulaa ordered Mumineen to take Nazr ul Maqaam AS after this Ilaahi Nusrat.
- This Mo'jezah Nafisah happened several times and in 10 years the masjid got completed in 1110 AH/1699 AD. The qiblah, mehrabs, minarets, courtyard, elevation was in same shape and size as the masjid at Rang Mahal. From 1110 AH Maulaa offered Imaamat namaaz in this newly constructed masjid and occasionally went to Musanji masjid too. In Shahrullaah 1439 AH, Aqaa Maulaa Saiyedna saheb TUS installed the old central wooden mehrab of this masjid into the central hall of Nooraani Masjid having the year of completion 1110 AH engraved in it.
- Simultaneous, with the masjid, the foundation of the Devdi Mubaarak - the residence of Maulaa was laid and it was only ground floor with mud plaster and bamboos. Between the masjid and Devdi there were initially 21 houses and the last being Devdi Mubaarak. Else were open green spaces. Maulaa names this beautiful settlement of Mumineen as "Badri Mohalla". Initially those who migrated upon someone's death, were reluctant to bury their dear ones at Maru Falia instead they used to bury in the backyard of their houses. At Maulaa's request some of them started staying at Maru Falia and burial place - qabarastaan was demarcated. The place was named as "Husaini Mohalla" and Maulaa did wasiyat to his son Saiyedna Mo'ayyaduddin saheb to bury him at its end. Now the place is recognised as Bustaan e Badri.
- Eventually more and more houses were built and Maulaa ordered to dig several wells. The first one was in masjid courtyard, then at Chowk, at Devdi Mubaarak, at Popatwala house, Jaliwala house etc. Lad bibi of Patan sent a request to Miya Mehmood and then to Maulaa to allow some of her migrant families to built their temporary huts. The space behind Badri Mohalla was given to these Patani Bohras for temporary stay as they were Isma'ili Taiyebi Bohras before 250 years in Patan. They never left the place and thus afterwards it became to be known as Mhoti Whorwaad. But originally it was the very part of Badri Mohalla.
- Aqaa Maulaa Saiyedna saheb TUS during his Taqreer, exhibited a rare and unique manuscript in Arabic named as "Balohar and Buzaasuf" written during the time of Maulaa's Da'wat and the name of his son Saiyedna Mo'ayyaduddin saheb written on its front page. It is the book of Buddha who renounced royal life and became wandering ascetic in search of true faith following the teachings and morals of his master Balohar. It was originally written in Sanskrit, then got translated into Persian and then our Du'aat got it done into Arabic. Those who want to know the basic human values and the reality of life and death should surely read this book.

Focusing on the migration of Muqaddas Maulaa from Ahmedabad to Vadodara in 1110 AH, Aqaa Maulaa TUS addressed Mumineen in the majlis of Behram that, "In the entire Islamic history, Prophets-Awliyaa-Du'aat migrated from one place to another due to attacks or oppression from the enemies, political holdings or realignment, search for better livelihood, safety of Da'wat affairs as well as believers. When we talk about this the best example that comes to our mind is the migration of Rasoolullaah SAWS from Makkah to Madinah. Then comes the migration of Kufah, Salamiyah, Mehdiyah, Cairo, Yemen and Western India. The city of Vadodara has continuously remained Daar ul Hijrat for our Du'aat since 335 long years. Till now no other single place has got this unique status and distinction. It is the Aal e Athar of Saiyedi Noohji that its 13 Du'aat has put up their strong efforts in protecting the standards of our small close-knit community." |

"Muqaddas Maulaa migrated from Ahmedabad to Vadodara along with mumineen in 1110 AH/1699 AD and the first thing he did is he constructed masjid on the entrance of Badri Mohalla and also built a well. Mumineen first got settled between Devdi mubaarak and Masjid e Ziyaai. The second Mohalla of Alavi Mumineen got its form from Badri Mohalla that started from Masjid till Bustaan e Badri after 30 years of Migration." Mukaasir Maulaa quoted 2 Waaqe'aat of our Imaams, 1. The reason behind the Laqab of "Zain ul 'Aabedeen" given to our 3rd Imaam 'Ali bin Imaam Husain AS. 2. Imaam Husain AS gifted many things to a person who every time defamed Imaam by using foul language. This way Imaam gave Sabaq of compassion. |

Allaah Ta’aala has created human-beings above all other creatures making him “ashraf ul-makhluqaat” – the best of all creations, by bestowing him with intellect and power of reasoning. He tames and controls everyone but to tame him Allaah has sent Nabi or Rasool who is like him with the exclusive characteristic of granting Shafaa’at-advocacy for the forgiveness.
Qabr is the way towards Aakherat and it is the abode for Accounts of deeds. Every mumin who dies is Shaheed and his death is physical not spiritual. Da’iyullaah who is the head and master of mumineen is the witness of all their deeds and he is the majma’-union and meeting place of their souls where Da'i makes them ascend towards the holiest place of Imaam uz-Zamaan (as). The qabr-e-aqdas i.e. holy grave of a Da'i is the place of Noor, Rahmat and Shafaa’at.
It is the big mistake for a mumin if he assigns a tag of ‘wali’ to any person who is famous among people for his piousness or devotion. ‘Wali’ is the one with whom ‘walaayat’ is attached and he is granted the complete authority of Shari’at. Walaayat is the spiritual guardianship held by a single person from Aal-e-Mohammad (sa) physically present in all times as an Imaam or his representative. He is called “Maulaa”. |

Following are the Nikaat-e-Mufeedah (important points) which Mazoon ud-Da'wat mentioned in the Bayaan of Shab-e-‘Urs of Muqaddas Maulaa:
28th Da'i ul-Mutlaq Saiyedna Shaikh Aadam Safiyuddin saheb and Shaheed-e-Aazam 29th Da'i ul-Mutlaq Saiyedna Ali Shamsuddin bin Ibrahim (qr), who were born in Vadodara used to visit the city frequently to meet the aqaarib (relatives). They resided in a locality in the walled city area near Mandvi which is now called as “Fakhri Mohalla”.
Our mumineen used to live near the Fakhri Masjid of Saiyedi Musanji Taaj saheb (ra) which was constructed by the Razaa Mubaarak of Saiyedna Dawoodji bin Ajabshah (qr). During the time of Saiyedna Badruddin Hasan bin Wali (qr), the aamil of Vadodara carried out the ruhaani umoor of mumineen and headed the imaamat in namaaz in this historic masjid.
In order to safeguard the mumineen and protect the jamaa'at from the deadly and fearful attacks from Sunnis and disloyal Bohras of Taiyebji's faction, Saiyedna Badruddin Hasan bin Wali (qr) spent the last 19 years of his life in an underground shelter. During this time he instructed and did wasiyat to Saiyedna Ziyauddin saheb (qr) to migrate and make Vadodara as “Daar ul-Hijrat” i.e. the centre of Da'wat Haadiyah.
Saiyedi Nuhji, the father of Saiyedna Ziyauddin saheb played a pivotal role in supporting the cause of truthfulness and became the backbone in elevating the confidence among mumineen in Ahmedabad and Vadodara who were facing constant threat from the enemies of Ahlul Bayt (as). He was among the hudood of Saiyedna Badruddin Hasan bin Wali (qr). To avenge the martyrdom of Saiyedna Ali (qr), Saiyedna Badruddin Hasan bin Wali (qr) initiated an elusive and strong movement against the culprits.
Following the wasiyat of Saiyedna Badruddin Hasan bin Wali (qr), Saiyedna Ziyauddin saheb migrated to his hometown Vadodara in 1110 AH with 250 mumineen along with all belongings especially protecting the khazaanah of Da'wat which consisted of valuable manuscripts of Du'aat ul-Akrameen. Our Saiyedna took unimagnable pains to protect our community and migrated on bullock carts that took days and nights to reach Vadodara from Ahmedabad.
Mumineen of Vadodara gathered in the outskirts of the city to welcome and greet the cavalcade of Saiyedna Saheb. A person named Miya Mehmood was so impressed by the nobility and generosity of Saiyedna that he gifted a portion of his Wadi (land) to Saiyedna which we call as Badri Mohalla at present. The city of Vadodara was limited in a walled fort. The Wadi (land) of Miya Mehmood Shi'a was situated in the ourskirts of the city surrounded by fruit orchards and charming gardens.
Allaah Ta'aala bestowed Saiyedi Nuhji saheb with an eternal ne'mat of his khidmat of Da'wat Haadiyah with 12 Du'aat Mutlaqeen in his nasl-e-paak of which Huzoor-e-‘Aali Saiyedna Taiyeb Ziyauddin saheb (tus) also holds this distinction of the esteemed member of Aal-e-Nuhji. It is the barkat of our Du'aat that today we have prospered and flourished in Vadodara which is the burial place of our 11 Du'aat. |
